PULLUMEDU VIEW POINT

PULLUMEDU VIEW POINT

The name ‘Pullumedu’ which means green meadow could not be any more apt for this green garbed hill town. A place of spiritual significance, Pullumedu is a focal point of attraction for nature lovers and academics alike with rare flora and fauna that thrive in a delicate ecosystem. It is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Kerala, and rightfully so. Pullumedu has held a special place in the hearts of Sabarimala pilgrims as it offers a fascinating view of the acclaimed Sree Ayyappa Temple and the "Makarajyothi" (celestial light) illumination at the shrine during the "Makaravilakku" festival.

Apart from this spiritual significance, Pullumedu is also home to rare flora and fauna, some of them endemic to the region. Pullumedu harbors a very delicate eco-system, as evidenced by the fact that certain areas are closed off to visitors citing concerns of disturbing this balance. A trip to Thekkady is certainly incomplete without a visit to Pullumedu. Clearly a nature lover's paradise, a roughly 40 km road trip from Thekkady to Pullumedu is equally thrilling as it is only accessible by jeep, being in a restricted forest zone and requiring prior permission to make a visit.

Note : Pullumedu is part of the restricted forest zone. Special permission needs to be obtained from government authorities to visit Pullumedu.
