ATTRACTIONS / PARUNTHUMPARA
The place is a trekker’s delight, providing a bird’s eye view of an endless stretch of highland, green meadows and low-lying areas, all in true high definition. Fresh air and a cool breeze add to the charm of Parunthumpara. The place derived its name from the words "parunth" which means eagle and "para" which means rock. Thus "Parunthanpara," or eagle rock, which is probably in reference to the monoliths that are spread out like eagles or the bird's eye view of the countryside that the place provides.
The mist and the cool wind that blows across Parunthanpara's landscape is truly refreshing. It's very easy to lose track of time adoring the awe-inspiring beauty of the area. The steep hills, although cordoned off to visitors, still pose a threat to the reckless kind of adventure buffs. Just glancing at the steep drop hundreds of feet below is enough to make one's heart skip a beat. The place is beautiful year-round and hence Parunthampara welcomes visitors in huge numbers irrespective of seasons. Tourists visiting Thekkady can easily include Parunthampara in their itinerary or as a stopover and it's definitely a place you don't want to miss.
