PERIYAR TIGER TRAIL

PERIYAR TIGER TRAIL

Periyar Tiger Trail is a unique initiative by a team of reformed ex-poachers as part of the community based eco-tourism programme in the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The tiger trail provides tourists with an opportunity to explore Thekkady's wildlife up close, deep inside the forest. Forest camping enthusiasts are in for a highly enjoyable adventure in the Periyar Tiger Trail. The programme is offered in two categories of a two days and one night package or three days and two nights package. Tourists will trek along the trail during the day and camp the night in pitched tents in the Periyar Tiger Reserve. This invariably requires forsaking some of the comfort and luxury of your hotel bedroom at Tigers Roare' for the duration of your trek. Vegetarian food may be prepared and served en route. It goes without warning that only tourists who are medically cleared for such activities and ready to accept comfort deprivation to a certain extent may participate in the tiger trail. A team may consist of up to five tourists, five forest guides and armed forest guard, although this number is subject to variation. A distance anywhere between 25 and 35 kilometres is covered during the trek, depending on the route chosen.
The Periyar Tiger Trail is also an opportunity to get exclusive close up sightings of wild elephants, the Nilgiri Langur, or even the namesake animal of the Periyar Tiger Reserve- the tiger. The adventurous tales of the expert forest guides that accompany the group will keep you on your toes throughout the trek. In the interest of safety, these professionals will be on guard throughout the night, keeping an eye on any animal encroachments. Nature lovers will be delighted at the opportunity that the tiger trail provides to experience forest life. The Periyar Tiger Trail has played a vital role in ensuring that the most vulnerable parts of the Periyar Tiger Reserve are well protected.
