ATTRACTIONS / CHELLARKOVIL
With unending chains of hills, green mountains, coconut groves and cascading waterfalls, Chellarkovil is every traveler’s dream come true. Situated about 1200 meters above sea level, Chellarkovil is located close to the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. So close that the water fall originates in Kerala and touches land in Tamil Nadu!! The shimmering light of the sun reflected on the cascading waterfalls is a sight to behold. It is no wonder Chellarkovil is considered, and righfully so, as one the best tourism spots in the Idukki district of Kerala.
A brainchild of the eco-tourism project in the area, activities ranging from guided treks to a visit to ayurvedic gardens to watch tower tours are available for tourists to be entertained by. Chellarkovil is 15 kilometers north of Thekkady and is easily accessible. A watch tower, better known as "God's Own Balcony," has visitors thronging to it to avail stunning views of the sunrise and sunset using a mounted telescope. All this and more that Chellarkovil offers has made it feature prominently in the "Places to visit while in Thekkady" list.
